SELFOSS HAS MORE TO OFFER THAN MEETS THE EYE Where I wouldn’t suggest this as an ideal hotel when travelling with kids in Iceland I can, however, recommend it as a good basis self-catering apartment hotel ideal for hikers looking for a clean, well-equipped base to explore this area of Iceland. After descending with three boys under 3 in these unusual circumstances they still made us feel very welcomed. Not a traditional family hotel the kind owner and his staff did their best to cater to our needs. After an exhausting drive in blizzardy conditions, we arrived Saturday afternoon to the Arctic Natura Hotel. Yet our unexpected two-night stay there definitely had its highlights. This visit to Selfoss wasn’t part of our original plan. This is therefore the first post from our travels.

It has taken me a while to digest was was surely an adventures and exhilarating family holiday. You can also have a bowl of the soup-of-the-day (take away or at the table).Parking lot is on the main street, right in front of the hotel and next-door restaurant, no need to park at the back street. With the weather dramatically affecting our Iceland trip in February it saw us stranded in Selfoss. You'll find typical products + ready-made sandwiches + milk + cheese + skyrt / yoghurt etc. A very good bakery (bakarí) on the main street, around 100 m towards the centre and it opens at 7.30, which is very convenient. Water can be boiled in the room, there's some tea and coffee available. The place looks like a hotel but there's a very well equipped kitchen in the common area (plates, cups, pots, frying pans, cutlery, washing liquid etc). Free WiFi and free private parking are available on site.Įasy check-in and check-out, everything arranged remotely (no hotel staff on the spot). All in all, each staff go out of their way to make you, as the special guest, warmly welcomed.īella Apartments & Rooms is located in Selfoss and offers both guest rooms and self-catering apartments with a fully equipped kitchen. The food is definitely some of the best on the island (including the breakfast), and the staff are all of a high caliber including the younger staff (who come for the summer season from mainland Europe with impeccable credentials and experience). Additional impressions of true quality related to the food and staff. If you care to slow down and appreciate the surroundings here then you might find yourself (as we did) soaking in some of the mystic energy that Icelanders have described over centuries. We were especially impressed by both the authenticity and quality of woodwork, architecture, furnishings and art in the restaurant/bar areas (and including the traditional Icelandic torfus houses where guests stay) that successfully transport the guest into a time closer to the Viking age. whether you are enjoying one of the private basalt stone hot pools or photographing horses with their new foals close by. It feels remote, yet surrounded by lovely vistas it is within easy driving distance to the geysers (Geysir) and to the incredible Gulfoss waterfalls, yet sits in an atmosphere of peacefulness Among the facilities at this property are room service and a concierge service, along with free WiFi throughout the property. Situated in Selfoss, Torfhús Retreat features a garden and terrace.
